Auntie Em, Auntie Em...
It has been busy over here in my little corner of the world...getting ready for more company, dodging tornadoes (amidst my garage sale) , building fences, laying sod and spreading mulch. Hubby was away for a few days so he missed most of the excitement. Friday and Saturday I had a garage sale. Were I am from we call it a "tag" sale but no one around here knows what that is. Thankfully I learned that quickly or no one would have come If my ad in the paper said "TAG SALE, collectibles, antiques and household goods", boy that would have been a bummer. However, garage sale they knew and came and reduced my load a good bit.
Friday the sod company decided to show up and deliver the grass for our backyard...during the tag sale! I already had a dump load of mulch in the driveway and lots of people mulling around. The only way into the back yard was the driveway through everything and the mulch! OMG, all I could do was laugh! They have these really cool little tractor like things that roll the sod out, it actually did not take too long about 45 minutes and they were gone.
Saturday was not a great day so I could not have the sale for long as we were expecting some severe weather, the first of the season so it was a big deal. The weather alarm was going off all day and we keep a close eye on the radar and glued to the TV, we were in a Tornado watch.
A tornado watch is just to let folks know to be on the lookout for a possible tornado in the area whereas a Tornado Warning is a notification that a tornado has been seen or picked up by radar. However that quickly changed to a Tornado warning, there were some rotations spotted but luckily we only had heavy rain and winds. I had cleared the clutter in the garage to have a path to our safe room, thankfully we did not need to use it. Phew!
My sister Susan is coming for 10 days....yes that is right TEN DAYS! I love her to pieces but lordy what was she thinking! I will pick her up at the airport on Thursday and we are heading right to the Smoky Mountains and will be staying in Gatlinburg Tenn. for 4 days. We have never been so it will be fun. I have lots of things planned., one of the cool thing is she loves to watch me make jewelry. She is not crafty but I am thinking a resin project will be fun.
We also have an occassional tornado watch or warning in my area (SW corner of Iowa). Glad you didn't have to run for cover. Sounds like a crazy busy weekend.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, tornado season lays waste to the best laid plans. Apparently so do the lawn people :-). Good to have a plan and activities to do with your sis. Have a wonderful time!
ReplyDeletemother nature sure can shake things up, can't she? around here, we worry about nor'easters and hurricanes... i cannot imagine needing a safe room... my bro moved to san diego so he now is attuned to earthquakes... life is precious and fragile and she reminds us of that for sure! have fun with your sister...
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your Sis. I have always wanted to go to Gatlinburg. I hope you'll do a blog post on your visit.
ReplyDeleteI am soooo glad tornados are very rare here in the pacificnorthwest.
ReplyDeleteBoy, am I glad we don't have tornados! Sounds like it was a very "exciting" weekend! Have a great time with your sister.
ReplyDeleteGatlinburg will be so much fun for you girls - and four days is just the right amount of time, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine the expression on your face when the truck pulled into the driveway...
Have fun with your sister - can't wait to hear all about your adventures. Hugs - Julie
A busy and exciting weekend. I'm very glad all is well and you will have ten days with your not so crafty sister. I can relate to her, I'm not so crafty myself. But I still enjoy your creative endeavors.
ReplyDelete10 days with my sister would do me in!! ha! I hope you have a great time with yours. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you dodged the tornados...that is so scary and I cannot imagine anything like it! A visit with your sister and going away for FOUR days sounds like a dream to me...hope you're having a great time! :-) Can't wait to see some pictures.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the tornadoes didn't affect you. We've had them come pretty close here too but have never been directly affected, thankfully. Have a great time with your sister!
