I would like to think this necklace would have looked just stunning on Queen Anne...however if you notice she is lacking a fancy adornment, could it be she just could not find the "right" piece to go with her outfit. The Baroque era, a favorite of mine, where the arts flourished in ornate, intricate and grandiose style. With Queen Anne in mind and the age of opulence, I created this plum colored delight. I am very pleased with the simplicity and elegance of this piece.
I would love for a day or so to be transformed into that time and place where I could gaze upon all the fine art, jewels, hand woven fabrics and hand crafted furniture. How amazing that would be. However I would be back in a flash for my hot shower, toothbrush and indoor plumbing...and this girl is not wearing a corset!
What is your favorite era? What fascinates you about that time in our history?
The moonstone is characterized by an enchanting play of light. Indeed it owes its name to that mysterious shimmer which always looks different when the stone is moved and is known in the trade as 'adularescence'. In earlier times, people believed they could recognize in it the crescent and waning phases of the moon.
The moonstone symbolizes our being in its entirety. With its soft shimmer, it strengthens our emotional and subconscious aspects. The associations connected with that make it a "lovers' stone", evoking tender feelings and safeguarding the true joys of love. It is also said that wearing a moonstone strengthens our intuition and our capacity to understand.
On another note...the DH and I had a wonderful weekend away. The West Baden Springs Resort was everything and more we had hoped it would be. We love staying at Historical hotels and this hotel was just amazing. The atrium was just beautiful...marble pillars, urns over flowing with ferns, furnishing were all pristine, with the decor being art nouveau, definitely a step back in time.
On our way home we stopped at an antique shop. It took my breath away as we entered as it was chuck FULL, and I really mean that! There were only tiny paths to walk down, treasures everywhere. As you can see by this picture taken with the camera phone I meant what I said! I found this great child's hickory chair that came home with me and will end up in my antique booth. A great ending to a perfect weekend!
I love working with baroque pearls, I like the old world look and feel they have and think they look great in modern designs. A nice twist to a classic... You can find this in my Artfire shop.
A vintage rhinestone brooch set in sterling is the focal point on this one of a kind heirloom necklace. Gold washed freshwater pearls are wire wrapped in oxidized brass.Vintage glass beads, rhinestone roundelles and antique watch fob chains are also used in this lovely couture necklace. You can find All that glitters is gold in my etsy shop.
You know that I do not make "matchy" jewelery but I could not help myself today....I enjoyed making the necklace that I call "Dusk" so much that I wanted to makeearrings and a bracelet to match. Here they are... what do you think? I really like the organic look this set has with the fire agate beads, baroque pearls and copper...all natural elements.
Yesterdays finds at the flea market were slim pickins...I only picked up a few items but did get a nice stash of beads from Mary "my" bead lady. I fell in love with some fire agate beads in the most unusual colors, I was not sure they were indeed fire agate but when Mary held them up to the light I could see the "fire" within. Lately I am loving long necklaces, I really have never liked anything heavy on my neck and since my neck surgery I can not tolerate anything touching my scar.
This piece that I made has a thinner copper chain so all the focus should be on the design of the necklace. I call this "Dusk"... The colors of this necklace remind me of Dusk, when the colors of the day blend to evening,Look to the sky you will know what I mean.
I used chunky baroque pearls for a touch of romance wrapped in copper wire and then attached them to a copper washer that I textured and oxidized. A chunky copper bead is sandwiched between some fabulous fire agate beads. I loved making this and it would be great as a short necklace as well. Tell me what you wear most often...what is your favorite piece of jewelry?
