Creature of the Wind

"When the heat of the summer Made drowsy the land, A dragon-fly came And sat on my hand". Eleanor Farjeon Quotes
I stepped out of the box a little here with this piece. I had found some little pieces of white drift wood while on my trip to Nevada and I knew I wanted to create something from it. So smooth and white...I added a freshwater pearl as a perfect compliment. A raw edge piece of silk makes the perfect draping for this pendant.

Our new kitty "Captain Morgan" is finally here! It has been a bit chaotic as we are also dog sitting. Our cats Jack and Sam are not too pleased with the new rambunctious arrival, lots of hissing and growling going on. Morgan is a sweetie and has found how much fun my studio is!

He is so stinking cute!

I fell in love with these matte czech glass beads...so soft and colorful.

New Beginnings

New Beginnings~
An eclectic combination of organic components~ wood, yellow turquoise and copper are all wire wrapped and linked to form this one of a kind bracelet. A printed mother of pearl disk is the focal, adding splashes of color. Tibetan beads add texture and a dragonfly charm adds happiness, new beginnings and change. An asymmetrical toggle clasp is hand forged, textured and adds a touch of whimsy.

You can find this on my new re-designed website JudithBDesigns.com...tomorrow is the day we will launch the new site.

Creature of the Wind

...As a creature of the wind, the dragonfly frequently represents change. And as a dragonfly lives a short life, it knows it must live its life to the fullest with the short time it has – which is a lesson for all of us.

Monday I worked all day in my studio...working out some frustration and sadness. We had gotten some sad news that a friend of ours past away suddenly. Dave was a high school and college friend who had been in our wedding. We recently reconnected on Facebook and he was there everyday with his wonderful humor and support. Like this dragonfly Dave lived his short life to the fullest and gave himself to those in need. It is so hard to understand the master plan...who gets to stay and who has to leave so early in life. So my friends...make the best of each day, tell someone you love them, smile at a stranger and be good to yourself.

Tuesday's before & after

I want to share with you some more of my before and after photos. I ordered some porcelain pieces from Summers Studio Pottery and I can not tell you how pleased I am with Leeann's work. Her stunning rich glazes and designs speak to me with their antique and vintage styles.

An unexpected combination of colors, shapes and textures are used to create this one of a kind couture necklace...a juxtapose if you will. I used a porcelain handcrafted pendant by Summers Studio Pottery for the focal piece. This pendant was handformed in porcelain using vintage filigree to add an elegant swirling pattern with a tiny shell motif. The pendant is glazed front and back in an ocean blue green,I added a vintage rhinestone for a dangle and some bling. Wire wrapped in sterling are stick pearls, lapis, smoky quartz, rhinestone spacers, pearls and sterling beads. A hand forged clasp is used in the front. All sterling has been oxidized for an aged look and buffed to bring out some shine. Measures 17 1/2". This piece is truly one of a kind!

And lastly is this darling bronze dragonfly charm. I used the 22mm charm for a pendant and wire wrapped it in oxidized brass and added a colorful polymer clay bead. A black greek leather cord with handforged clasp finishes this piece off nicely.
