Unfold Your Wings

I have a sweet little necklace in this months issue of Bead Trends. I forgot about it until  the UPS man showed up at my door with a package from Bead Trends....ooooh, how I love getting packages! You can find my piece on page 30. Those colorful beads I used are from LeAnn of SummersStudio  and you can find the cool bird connector at Micheal's Stores.

Off to the doctor tomorrow to have the sutures and staples removed from my leg, all 25 of them! It has been 28 days and its time they come out, you have no idea how many times I wanted to take my wire cutters and take them out myself.  I am getting around better but I  still have a long way to go.

A great day for etching

It warmed up today and it was a great day to etch. All summer I have had my etching "station" on the screened in porch off the kitchen. It has been a perfect place to etch, no fumes to deal with and closed off from critters. Since the weather has gotten a bit chilly, I had to move everything to the laundry room, but that stunk the house up too much, even with fans. Thankfully today was beautiful so I took the opportunity to etch like crazy on the porch. I suppose the winter station will have to be the garage.

Here is one of the completed pieces. I used nickel silver and loved the result! You can find this piece in my Etsy shop.

Unfold Your Wings

"My Soul is in the Sky"

I may be wearing out my welcome with all of my etching but I just can't help myself, I am like a kid with a new toy!  I had purchased this great twig piece at Michael's while I was in Nevada, I knew I wanted to do something a little different with it. I am not usually one to mix metal colors together, however I am working on that and trying to get out of my "box". I really like the combinations here and I think each element compliment each other nicely.

The fab ceramic beads are from Summers Studio

 You can find this whimsical piece on my website Judith B. Designs.com

We have been looking for a new car for sometime we know what we want but just have not found it at a price we are willing to pay. My DH has a friend who has a small dealership and has offered to take him to the car auction. Today was the auction day, but the DH is back in Nevada (poor guy) so guess who went to the auction?  Me, Me...me! It was just like on TV...way cool! Thousands upon thousands of cars...anything you want! It was so tempting to change my mind but I did not waiver. We are looking  for a Volvo SC90 , they had many of them but after weeding bad colors and other things out there were two that we were going to bid on, unfortunately the bidding went higher than our budget would allow. We will try again in a few weeks at the next auction. I will keep you posted if I get lucky!

Musings

I love working with resin from time to time, the pieces add a cleaner more modern look to my usual creations. I am really pleased with this bracelet, it has great color and is so comfortable to wear! I found these 1/2" X 1/2" bezels at Hobby Lobby and connected them with sterling jump rings. The Hobby Lobby near me is a wonderful store and have great sales every week. I have become friendly with Susan the lady that runs the jewelry department and she has has been able to get things I have asked for. I was thrilled to see a variety of bezels come in and she is always surprising me with new things. Is this a paid advertisement? Oh, Lorda God no, I just am a big fan of HL.

Bird in Flight

A symbolic necklace full of Hope, growth and the rhythm of life.

I created a one of a kind resin pendant for this piece I call "Bird in Flight".
The pendant was made using resin, vintage papers, an old watch face and a bird charm. A thin piece of mica sits under the resin and gives the pendant an iridescent glow.
Handmade sheet music beads, rulitated quartz and mother of pearl beads are wire wrapped in steel and accent the whimsical pendant. You can find this piece on my website.

Spring Moss
Bone beads and handmade copper bead caps compliment the porcelain floral pendant and porcelain beads created by LeAnn of Summers Studio Pottery. Oxidized copper and vintage metal links unite all of these great components.
You can find Spring Moss in my Etsy shop.

Fly....

I hate to bore you with all my resin pieces but they were so much fun to make! Here is one of the last pieces for now. I especially like this one with the bird from Patina Queen. The color is so perfect with the turquoise beads and really makes the pendant pop! A chunky red carnelian bead is added to the bone and wood beads. You can find "Fly" on my website.

Feathered Joy

So luminous with living wings,
So musical with feathered joy . . .

Told y'all I would finish this last night! This little yellow birdie makes me smile...

Little birdies can be found on Etsy at Summer's Studio Pottery.

Bird Sanctuary

Between the cliff-rise and the beach
A slip of emerald I own;
With fig and olive, almond, peach,
cherry and plum-tree overgrown;
Glad-watered by a crystal spring
That carols through the silver night,
And populous with birds who sing
Gay madrigals for my delight.

Some merchants fain would buy my land
To build a stately pleasure dome.
Poor fools! they cannot understand
how pricelessly it is my home!
So luminous with living wings,
So musical with feathered joy . . .
Not for all pleasure fortune brings,
Would I such ecstasy destroy.

A thousand birds are in my grove,
Melodious from morn to night;
My fruit trees are their treasure trove,
Their happiness is my delight.
And through the sweet and shining days
They know their lover and their friend;
So I will shield in peace and praise
My innocents unto the end.

By Robert Service

Look for this piece on my website...but you have to wait until the new site is opened, just a little tease. I will keep you posted!

Kindred Spirits

We cannot destroy kindred: our chains stretch a little sometimes, but they never break. ~Marquise de Sévigné

A late 1800's tin type photograph is forever preserved in resin and is set in a heart shaped bezel. Lampwork beads with swirls of plum,taupe and turquoise add soft color. Czech glass beads are wire wrapped to compliment the lampwork beads. Textured silver metal chain with a chunky lobster clasp for a closure. Kindred Spirits can be found in my Etsy shop.

Spread Your Wings and Soar

No one can prepare you for what heights you will soar until you spread your wings.”

I had fun putting this together. It looks heavy but it is not and is so comfortable to wear. This rustic eclectic piece can be found in my Artfire shop.

It has been fun seeing all the posts about the Bead Soup Party. I love seeing what people have sent each other. I think I will get started on mine today. The weather has been rainy and dreary and the colorful butterfly focal that Emanda my soup partner sent me with be perfect to work with today.

I also created another piece "Hope" for Haiti to sell to help raise fund for the American Red Cross. All proceeds from the sale of this necklace will be donated to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund. Please visit my Facebood Fan page or Artfire. Thanks for caring.

Bird Song

A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song. ~Chinese Proverb

Vintage postcard image forever protected in resin and set in a vintage brass bezel. Rose quartz, picasso, peridot and czech glass beads are wire wrapped in oxidized brass for an aged look. An antique brass chain is used as well as a vintage spring clasp for a closure. You can find this piece in my Etsy shop.

The Christmas decorating continues....whew, it is a lot of work! I finally broke down and got an artificial tree this year. The DH was not fond of the idea but I did not see him searching for a Christmas tree farm. Although we live in the "country" there are no tree farms around here and the one we did find 2 years ago had only pine trees. We were use to cutting a nice fresh Fraiser Fur( when we lived in Ma.), and I refuse to purchase one that was cut down two months ago and is shipped in from Canada. So....I bought a 7 ft. slim tree and boy does it look real! I have a yankee candle balsam candle burning and you would never know!

New Beginnings

New Beginnings...is a one of a kind necklace with a resin focal pendant. The resin piece is one of the new pieces I recently made. This unique necklace is created with hand wrought brass links with dangles of picassa glass beads with rich natural colors that reflect the changing colors of the leaves. A new beginnings of a sweet little brass wire bird nest with antique pearls dangle is added.

You can find New Beginnings on my web site Judith B. Designs.
