Flap Your Wings

It has been a busy week! Now that my open house is behind me and all the hub bub of Thanksgiving is done I have to concentrate on getting my shop loaded with some new items. This week I hope to finally give the copper etching a try. I have been waiting for a time when I could just focus on that. If anyone has any special tips they would like to share I sure would appreciate it. I am going to use the peroxide and acid mixture.

"Flap Your Wings"
butterfly necklace can be found on my website.

  1. Judy, how did things go with the open house? That is a seriously beautiful flutterby necklace. I have no tips for copper etching but I'd love to hear about your experience. Good luck with it and mostly, have fun!

  2. Oh yeah, tips- don't get it on your skin! I let myself get too relaxed, got some on my finger and was regretting it for a good 10 minutes under the faucet. :( Just be careful. :)

  3. I took an etching class at Bead & Button this year with Gina Crow. I would say that it is important to have all your ideas ready to go once you get into the etching solution. I really hated working with the chemicals though I loved most of the results. I hated using the PNP paper (maybe I was just too impatient). I got the best results from using sharpie markers and stayzon ink with stamps. I wanted to have some words on my pendants and found that if I stamped them on later I lost all the details of the etch. So stamp first, then etch might work. I would love to do more of it, but I really hate those chemicals and the fact that once you use it you have to find a way to dispose of it. Have a well ventilated room and take great care. Good luck, and do share! Enjoy the day! Erin
P.S. I am having a blog challenge starting on Monday. Come over and check it out to be inspired!
