Today is my Mom's birthday she would have been 71 years old. My Mom passed away unexpectedly 13 years ago when she was 58 years old. She is in my thoughts always, especially when we gather as a family and I see the bits and pieces of her coming out in my siblings, or when I glance in the mirror I see something familiar on my face that I saw on hers. I still feel the urge to call her when I return from a trip to let her know I am home safe and sound. She had a challenging life but rose above so many things to give us a good life as a single parent raising 5 children. She taught my sisters and I how to be the strong independent women we are today.
